American Red Cross Revs Its Engine at New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend

Red Cross, 3M, Roush Fenway Racing Partnering to boost blood donations

Thursday, June 26, 2008 — The American Red Cross takes to the NASCAR track this Sunday in New Hampshire.

Red Cross is partnering with 3M and Roush Fenway Racing on Red Cross Racing to raise awareness about the need for blood, particularly among NASCAR fans.  Red Cross blood donor and Celebrity Cabinet member Greg Biffle, currently No. 7 in the rankings, will drive the No. 16 car sporting the Red Cross logo.  The race will be featured on TNT Sunday, beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Every two seconds, someone in this country needs blood.  The American Red Cross urges everyone who is eligible to make giving blood part of their plans. To give blood, you must be at least 17 years of age, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health.  Some states allow 16-year-olds to give blood with parental consent.  If you have given blood before, it must be at least 56 days since your last donation.

Fans lucky enough to be at the track can join Red Cross Racing by visiting the Red Cross exhibit on the midway.  You can also register online at redcrossracing.com. The exhibit gives everyone an opportunity to learn more about Red Cross services.  Visitors also have the chance to win Red Cross Racing prizes while testing their Red Cross knowledge playing various games.

Red Cross Racing members can accrue points for blood donation activities to be exchanged for racing gear including such items as caps, t-shirts, jackets and limited edition die-cast cars. Registrants are automatically entered into the Sweepstakes drawing for a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip for two to the Phoenix race on November 9, 2008. The prize package includes airfare, hotel, two race tickets and pit and garage tours.

The Red Cross is already engaged in NASCAR through a partnership with Lowe’s Home Improvement, as well as the efforts of the NASCAR Foundation and the various race tracks that hold blood and bone marrow drives.

About the American Red Cross:
The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and counsels victims of disasters; provides nearly half of the nation's blood supply; teaches lifesaving skills; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization – not a government agency – and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its humanitarian mission.
